5 weeks ago I participated in my first ever Pinewood Derby. That's right folks, a whole bunch of mid-twenties singles got together for a night of speed and creativity at our YSA Derby. Car-name favorites included: spooning, I'm on a boat, Chastity:I'm fast but not easy, and Mine Arm is revealed (see pics). For some unknown reason I decided to make a pirate ship derby car. I must admit, I'm quite pleased with the result. It was complete with an anchor made out of a paperclip and a pirate with a wooden leg and an eye patch.
The results: while the ship lacked in speed, it made up for the loss in pure awesomeness and brought home the "Best of Show" award. Hoera! Next year: I'm pimping it out with lead weights.
I also celebrated my 26th birthday! It was a very fun day! Many a friend came to a cake and ice-cream party and there was a smaller gathering for a Thai dinner (mmmm!)
4 weeks ago was Easter and Conference weekend: a two-in-one delight. I indulged in my favorite candy of the year: Dove Truffle Eggs, went to the SF flower mart and bought myself an Orchid plant (or three), ate a delicious conference breakfast, listened to the amazing words of living prophets, and did an Easter Egg hunt in the park barefoot making me feel like a little kid again.
Week 3 On my actual birthday, Wells Fargo called to offer me a position as a Personal Banker for them. What a b-day present! I was very happy. At this point I had been "let-go" from the flower shop as the Marketing Diretor, but had been hired back two weeks later. After making a difficult choice, I decided to go with Wells Fargo because if I want to follow the dream I once had about doing micro-finance in third-world countries I have to have banking experience. Plus, I wanted to put my finance degree to work. So, this week I had to give my two-weeks notice to a job that I really enjoyed. I did not like doing it, but I did and I survived.
Two weeks ago my parents came into town to visit which was realy fun! I took the 'rents to a few of my favorite places around SF indluding GG bridge, a picnick at the Palace of Fine Arts and adventure at the Castro slides. At the slides, disaster struck when my dad, who was flying down the slide, chose NOT to brake at the end and went flying off and landed on his back. Poor ol' man compressed his spine and walked like a 100 year-old man the rest of the weekend. I felt bad, but now that he's okay, it's pretty funny to look back on :) We had a good time together. I adore my parents!

And to bring it up to the present, the past couple weeks have been very busy with life in general. I finished up my two weeks at my job and referred my friend Stephanie to take my place-which she got (yea!), and started at Wells Fargo. However, I did stay on with the flowershop as their "wedding speacialist" which I will do on the side. I will now meet with brides and wedding planners to discuss their wedding flowers and will get to type up their written proposals and visit wedding venues in the bay area-fun! Other things in my life include:....I went to beautiful Seattle for a weekend and litterally got a suntan. Yes, in Seattle. I am so happy I have some roots in such a beautiful place. I have been reading a good book, Inkheart, the one that was made into a movie. It is a very creative, well-written novel that I would recommend to anyone who likes to exercise their imagination. I've recently started watching the show "Glee" and find it very funny. I continue to indulge my bad habbit of going to bed late, which is not helpful for early work mornings. I made artichokes for dinner tonight and recently enjoyed a shopping spree at Ross Dress for Less.
That about sums things up. Despite being a bit of a ride in the job department, life has been pretty great. I love it. Next big thing: Beach Boys concert in Wendover NV, June 18th! :) But don't worry, I'll blog before that.
I love that your mom is totally swallowed up in the slide. And I read inkheart last summer ....it's pretty good, but the next two in the series aren't near as good. If you'd like, I'll give you a list of some GREAT ones I've read this past year, or am in the middle of. :)
