My mother was always big into holidays and made them very exciting for me and my sister growing up. Every St. Patrick's day I was astounded to find out that the Leprechauns had come and turned everything in the kitchen green! And when I say everything I mean the milk, butter and cream of wheat. Then we wore all green to school and loved every minute of it.
Some mothers support their children in other ways for St. P's day. I learned tonight that the mother of a friend of mine would purposefully put a green dot behind her ear so that she could pinch all the kids back 20 times because she was "wearing green". My dear friend wanted to make other children dread the St. Patty's holiday with her vicious pinching attacks. :)
Tonight, I celebrated St. Patrick's day by having 15 friends over for an Irish dinner of Corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots and white sauce. Personally I thought it was delicious; most people either love or hate corned beef. I am a lover. I decided that for my first attempt at making a corned beef dinner why stop at just one? I jumped right in and cooked 3 corned beefs (12 lbs of meat) (I have no idea what the proper pluralization of multiple cuts of beef is), 5 pounds of potatoes, 4 heads of cabbage and octupled(?) the white sauce recipe. :) And it was great! SUCCESS! It was a delight if I don't say so myself.
Next year I think I'll rent a leprechaun and learn how to river dance. What do you think?

I'm such a horrible mother. I didn't do anything for the 17th. I was going to make green blueberry muffins but Erica got up way before I did. Then I thought I would make them for lunch. Nope, Erica wanted cereal. We did wear green all day though. I hope I can do better next year. By then Erica will understand better.
ReplyDeleteMy dad would always paint a shamrock on our faces the night before. We loved it.
You party sounds like so much fun. As for me though I am not a corn beef lover. The first time and the last time I ever had it was on a date in High School. I will never eat it again.
Love ya Nikki!
Awesome blog Nikki, welcome to blogspotland, can't wait to read about more of your adventures.
ReplyDeletegroetjes uit Den Haag! xoxo
I wish I had been there - it was your turn to cook it - and I didn't get to have any :( too bad leftovers don't transport to Utah that well...
ReplyDeleteThe leprechaun visited here. we made a trap to catch him and get some gold, but he was too tricky. He left footprints all over the house, and drew on all of the mirrors, and turned our macaroni and cheese green. Ben made fun of me, and told me that nobody else did these things. I'm glad you did them, too. :)
ReplyDeleteHey, can you get me the number for the Leprechaun rental place, Big Paddy's Palace: Leprechaun Lovies for Every Occasion? Like I've said before, S.F. has soooo much more going on than Logan, especially when it comes to the renting out of mythical beings.
